National Poppy Day

Legion Family dream come true:

National Poppy Day debuts May 26

American Legion Auxiliary PoppyIn an effort to bring greater attention to the symbolism of the red poppy, we are embarking on a national effort to increase awareness and encourage community participation on May 26, 2017 – the inaugural National Poppy Day. The recognition of National Poppy Day broadens a tradition that dates back to the American Legion Auxiliary’s first National Convention in the early 1920s when the red poppy was adopted as The American Legion Family’s memorial flower. Today, it remains an iconic symbol of honor for the sacrifices of our veterans from the battlefields of France in World War One a century ago to today’s war on terror. ALA members distribute millions of poppies annually across the country in exchange for donations that go directly to veterans in our communities. Learn more.
Your participation is critical to ensure our first National Poppy Day is a success! Let’s provide U.S. citizens the opportunity to display or wear a poppy to remember the fallen and support our living heroes. Be sure to tag your social media posts using #PoppyDay and #LegionFamily! Boy Scout Eagle Project

Big changes are about to happen in the lounge area at Hillsboro Post 6. If you would like to help donate time or funds to this worthy cause, let us know.
Construction will be starting soon.

Hi, my name is Ryan Bunch. I am a Life Scout and I am very interested in doing my Eagle Scout project to help fix up the American Legion Post 6 lounge which is approximately 670 square feet.

The American Legion would like new sheet-rocked walls to cover the existing cinder block and old wood paneling. The walls will be textured and painted to make the room more inviting. Post 6 is preparing to do a series of renovations and I hope you can give them a donation for this project so it can be ready for the 100th year anniversary. American Legion Post 6 was my Cub Scout Pack’s chartered organization that I was with since I was a Tiger Scout, so I hope you can help them.

It’s Our Birthday!

The American Legion Centennial Celebration is not only about honoring the past 100 years of our history, but also preparing to continue our legacy of service. “  http://centennial.legion.org/

March 2019, will mark the 100th year of The American  Legion and the 100th year of our beloved Hillsboro Post 6! In   order to prepare for the upcoming celebration with events and  activities we need to reestablish the history of our Hillsboro Post 6. We are requesting input, such as a timeline of major events and activities for the last 100 years, past commander and auxiliary information, memorabilia such as old photos, uniforms, etc. Items of interest can be dropped off at our monthly meetings or you can email digital photos or other documents pertaining to the Post history. If possible, please include a description. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to get involved and to pass on your knowledge and wisdom in creating a living history for all to learn and discover.
