2017 Elephant Garlic Festival

We just finished a very successful Garlic Festival. The weather was great except for a little rain overnight Saturday and a few sprinkles on Sunday morning.  We had about 20 Legion, Auxiliary, SAL and family  members work 203 hours to make this happen.  It went from getting the corn cooker hauled to the festival, to setting up the booth, to tearing down the booth and cleaning everything up and getting it put away.

We sold 1100 ears of roasted corn along with water and soft drinks.  It takes at least 4 people to run the booth at one time.  We had repeat helpers and first- time helpers.  We all came together to make it happen.

This is a big fund raiser for the Legion and Auxiliary.  Most of the money that the Auxiliary gets from this project goes to funding Girls State.  The Legion puts it in their General fund to help cover their yearly expenses.

Our biggest problem is getting volunteers.  We are all getting older and we need more help.  The Garlic  Festival in always the second week in August.  Mark your calendars and let us know that you would like to help.  All we ask is if you can give us 4 or 5 hours of your time.  It can be fast paced at times.

Thank you to everyone that helped make this an enormous success!!!

Memorial Day 2017

National Poppy Day

Legion Family dream come true:

National Poppy Day debuts May 26

American Legion Auxiliary PoppyIn an effort to bring greater attention to the symbolism of the red poppy, we are embarking on a national effort to increase awareness and encourage community participation on May 26, 2017 – the inaugural National Poppy Day. The recognition of National Poppy Day broadens a tradition that dates back to the American Legion Auxiliary’s first National Convention in the early 1920s when the red poppy was adopted as The American Legion Family’s memorial flower. Today, it remains an iconic symbol of honor for the sacrifices of our veterans from the battlefields of France in World War One a century ago to today’s war on terror. ALA members distribute millions of poppies annually across the country in exchange for donations that go directly to veterans in our communities. Learn more.
Your participation is critical to ensure our first National Poppy Day is a success! Let’s provide U.S. citizens the opportunity to display or wear a poppy to remember the fallen and support our living heroes. Be sure to tag your social media posts using #PoppyDay and #LegionFamily! Boy Scout Eagle Project

Big changes are about to happen in the lounge area at Hillsboro Post 6. If you would like to help donate time or funds to this worthy cause, let us know.
Construction will be starting soon.

Hi, my name is Ryan Bunch. I am a Life Scout and I am very interested in doing my Eagle Scout project to help fix up the American Legion Post 6 lounge which is approximately 670 square feet.

The American Legion would like new sheet-rocked walls to cover the existing cinder block and old wood paneling. The walls will be textured and painted to make the room more inviting. Post 6 is preparing to do a series of renovations and I hope you can give them a donation for this project so it can be ready for the 100th year anniversary. American Legion Post 6 was my Cub Scout Pack’s chartered organization that I was with since I was a Tiger Scout, so I hope you can help them.
